Karpathos

Yesterday morning we arrived at Karpathos. There were not so many hotels chasing guests in the harbour, but after a little while someone saw us and wanted us to choose their hotel. It was a bit up in the centre of the city Pigadia, 5 min from the harbour and beach. It was ok even though the old lady in the reception was a bit harsh.

Yesterday we just looked around, went to the archeological museum and late afternoon to the beach.

Today we took the local bus up to the ancient city Olympos high on a mountain one hour drive from here. We got a shock when the round-trip tickets for the family costed 64 euro! A much bigger shock for me was the bus trip itself. The road was very narrow and with very steep, endless slopes on the side. I was really scared that we wouldn't make it. Worst trip like that ever! Next time I'll be sure to get some prescription drugs before...

Olympus was very nice and we spent the whole day there (which we could not choose because there was just one bus in each direction a day). The town was very isolated for a very long time and there was no road until 1980. 

Managed to survive the trip back home too.

Just had simple (but nice) dinner and a glass of retsina on our balcony. The hotel lady just gets nicer. Now she has brought us cake twice! :)

We'll stay here a couple of days more, take a boat trip to different beaches and then move to Amopi on the same island.
